The Brands I Sold on Poshmark, eBay, & Mercari – Spring 2021

I’ve been so busy over the past few months that I almost forgot to give you an update on what I’ve sold recently. It dawned on me that I hadn’t shared one of these posts in a long time, so here are the best brands and items I sold from March to May of this year.

Brands and Items I Sold

Reformation

Reformation is a perennial top-seller. I find that dresses sell better for me than other items like rompers or tops.

Of course, the style and condition matter too. This Harlow dress got lots of interest but sold for less than I would have liked because it had several small flaws.

1 ) Harlow silk wrap dress – Sold: $40

2) Off-the-shoulder midi dress – Sold: $70

3) Bettie romper – Sold: $50

A Bathing Ape (BAPE) t-shirt – Sold: $30

A Bathing Ape is a Japanese brand of men’s, women’s, and children’s streetwear. I sold three similar t-shirts for $30 each.

They were women’s t-shirts, which I think resell for less than the men’s ones. I have a rarer t-shirt from the BAPE x Keith Haring collaboration still listed waiting to sell.

Keep an eye out for items from BAPE collaborations and the luxury line BAPE Black.

Lululemon ABC Jogger men's pant – Sold: $65

Lululemon is another perennial top-seller. You have to know what styles to purchase because not everything by Lululemon sells well. Pants like these men’s joggers resell well.

Lululemon peplum riding jacket – Sold: $55

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found this jacket. This is a rare style that sometimes sells for over the original price of the jacket.

Unfortunately for me, this jacket was a Lululemon size 2, which is the smallest size they carry and too small for most people. Look for anything from Lululemon with a peplum style waist.

Lululemon Ready and Go tank – Sold: $35

Many older styles Lululemon tanks don’t sell as well as they used to or at all. I even gave one away recently.

I had hope for this one because it was a more recent style in nearly perfect condition. This one sold for full price within a few days of being listed.

Anthropologie Moulinette Soeurs Versailles dress – Sold: $75

This dress is one of my favorite finds ever because it’s just so beautiful. Would you believe this was my second time finding this dress at a thrift store?

I liked that it had a lace-up back accommodating multiple sizes. It sold for full price.

Tom Ford jeans – Sold: $100

Tom Ford men’s jeans are popular and sell for over $600 at retail, making them great for resale. I saw many sold listings for more than $100, but I wasn’t sure if the white color and length of these jeans would make them a slow seller. I accepted the first offer because sometimes I’d rather make a sale than wait for a sale.

Theory Saydres dress – Sold: $30

Theory is another brand that can sell well but tends to be a slow seller. This dress had been sitting for a while in my closet with few likes and shares.

I received an offer a few minutes after relisting it and accepted the offer. Relist old items often to give them more chance of selling.

Sea to Sky New Zealand hoodie – Sold: $35

I think Sea to Sky refers to a New Zealand sports challenge comprised of biking, swimming, and running. Of course it would take someone from New Zealand to know that and appreciate this jacket. An eBay buyer from New Zealand created an account just to purchase this jacket and at full price!

Earnest Sewn jeans – Sold: $30

I rarely find jeans in good enough condition to resell. I took a chance with these jeans because they were in near perfect condition and sold them on eBay with a best offer.

Torrid leggings NWT – Sold: $35

I had heard that Torrid sells well. It has for me in the past, but goodness, these took ages to sell! I listed them around last October and despite lots of likes, they finally sold at full price 6 months later.

lemlem

lemlem was founded by Ethiopian supermodel Liya Kebede to promote artisanship, production, and jobs in Africa. Dresses retail for over $300.

They have the potential to sell well at retail depending on the style and condition. I was thrilled to learn that one of my buyers was an Ethiopian woman.

1) Anan off-the-shoulder dress – Sold: $33

2) Multicolor kaftan – Sold: $35

Not Your Daughter’s Jeans Alina jeans NWT – Sold: $30

I don’t normally pick up NYDJ clothing. I purchased these jeans because they’re over $100 at retail, new with tag, and plus size. I had hoped that they would sell for more but accepted an offer to get them sold and off to a new home.

Mena Swimwear Viva swimsuit NWT – Sold: $29

Mena Swimwear is a Panamanian brand with cute and feminine swimsuits retailing for over $100. I don’t think it’s widely known in the US, which is probably why this swimsuit took so long to sell. It sold for full price on Facebook Marketplace.

Balenciaga The Power of Dreams children’s t-shirt – Sold: $175

Imagine my surprise when someone bought this children’s t-shirt for full price on Poshmark. My eyes nearly popped out in disbelief! This t-shirt retails for $250.

Alexander McQueen gown – Sold: $40

I was happy to sell this gown at this price because it was in fair to used condition with several flaws. Many Alexander McQueen dresses have the potential to fetch over $100 at resale.

Thoughts & notes

1 | Where I got these clothes

Earlier this year a woman who was moving homes contacted me looking to sell her high-end clothing. I purchased many of the items listed above from her.

This was a good reminder to me to branch out from my usual sourcing spots to find better or at least different items. I don’t normally come across brands like lemlem and Alexander McQueen at my neighborhood thrift stores.

If you feel like you’re not getting the items you want at your normal sourcing spots, you can read this post of 21 places to get clothes to sell on Poshmark for more ideas.

2 | Sales rollercoaster

You can read this post, watch YouTube, and see IG posts and get the idea that everyone is making non-stop sales and rolling in the dough. That’s not true for most sellers. Most sellers’ sales fluctuate by the week or month.

My sales go up and down like a rollercoaster depending on the time of the year and how much work I put into selling. Don’t feel bad if you’re in a sales slump!

Check out this list of 24 things to do when your items aren’t selling for some ideas on how to get them going again. My go-to actions are to keep listing new items, relist stale ones, and send out lots of offers.

3 | Use a tool to sell on more platforms

I signed up for the cross-listing tool List Perfectly at the start of the year to list my items to more marketplaces. That got me started selling on Facebook Marketplace and listing more on Depop and Tradesy.

  • Facebook Marketplace – FBMP has lower fees and cheaper shipping for lightweight items than Poshmark. I started off strong selling several items that had been sitting for a long time on other platforms. Sales have slowly died down to the occasional sale there.

  • Depop – I’ve made a few sales in Depop in the past several months but haven’t gained traction there. That might be because of the type of items I sell, and I rarely model the clothes. I only list there now because it’s easy with a cross-listing tool.

  • Tradesy – I’ve given up on Tradesy. I quit Tradesy once early on in my selling and now again after making only one sale there in several months.

Poshmark, eBay, Mercari, and the new addition of FBMP are my favorite places to sell. I will list to Depop and Tradesy if I feel the item might sell there.

I saved time on cross-listing and relisting to all of these platforms by using a paid tool. You can read my reviews of Vendoo and List Perfectly to learn more about them and see if one would work for you.

What’s sold well for you recently? What are some of your favorite brands and items to sell?
